We are seeking a skilled Drill and Blast Site Engineer for an immediate start to join our dynamic team. This is a unique opportunity to manage complex concrete structure packages on a transformative national infrastructure project.

 

Job Details

  • Location: Site-based role at Snowy Hydro 2.0, requiring travel to and from site.
  • Roster: Drive-In/Drive-Out (DIDO) or Fly-In/Fly-Out (FIFO), 14 days on/7 days off, alternating day shift & night shift.
  • Reporting to: Project Engineer.
  • Accommodation, meals, travel, and a company laptop provided.

 

Responsibilities

  • Drill & Blast Coordination: Collaborate closely with the Shift Boss and Blast Crews to coordinate the full excavation cycle, including drilling, charging, blasting, scaling, and mucking.
  • Technical Planning: Review drill plans and develop precise bolting and face patterns using iSure software (training provided if required).
  • Data Analysis: Download and analyze Measurement While Drilling (MWD) data to optimize drill accuracy, reduce overbreak, and improve cycle times.
  • Operational Support: Create and distribute cut sheets/drill plans for the Jumbo Operators and Shift Boss to guide daily production.
  • Procurement: Forecast and coordinate the timely ordering of ground support consumables (rock bolts, mesh, resin) and explosives/initiating systems to ensure continuity of underground operations.
  • QA/QC Management: Conduct underground Quality Assurance/Quality Control inspections, including profile checks, bolt testing, and geological mapping support.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records via the GLAASS system, verify Shift Reports, and obtain client sign-off to ensure commercial compliance.
  • Safety & Permitting: Prepare and manage daily “Permit to Tunnel” documentation, lead pre-start meetings, and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols regarding explosives handling and underground stability.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Interface with FGJV client engineers, surveyors, and geologists to resolve technical issues and ensure seamless handover of work areas.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Mining Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in tunnelling or underground mining, with specific exposure to Drill and Blast operations.
  • Construction Induction Training (White Card).
  • Current Australian Driver’s Licence (Manual).

 

Essential Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of drill and blast methodologies, ground support systems (rock bolting/shotcreting), and excavation sequences.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with iSure (or similar drill planning software) 
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with diverse teams, including jumbo operators, nippers, and client representatives.
  • Safety Focus: Demonstrated commitment to health and safety, particularly regarding high-risk underground activities and interactions with heavy plant.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, such as consumable tracking and RFI management, in a fast-paced environment.

 

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Willingness to undergo health screenings, as well as drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to provide proof of right to work in Australia (e.g., birth certificate or passport). 
  • Willingness to undergo or provide a current National Police Check.  
  • Ownership of a Telstra-compatible smartphone for site communication.
